SPORTS MEDICINE

While our team of physicians manages all types of upper extremity injuries across the age spectrum, we use a slightly different approach when evaluating athletes. We understand the anatomy and pathology of athletic injuries and appreciate the load requirements and level of competition for your specific sport and situation. A recommended approach to the same injury may differ widely based on your age, competition requirements (in season, off season), level of participation (recreational, scholarship, professional) and associated medical factors. We are accustomed to weighing these factors for athletes at all levels. Also, while we frequently coordinate care with outside coaches and trainers, we are glad to offer rehabilitation services and protocols through our experienced physical and occupational therapists.
Our approach to treatment generally begins with conservative, nonsurgical options. In other situations, we can provide surgical care for acute and chronic sports injuries with an emphasis on fingers, hands, wrists, forearms, and nerves. We are also accustomed to treating peripheral nerve conditions that may seem subtle, but hurt an athlete’s performance.
